Celebrating one day late! (Shhh.)
Yesterday, Sept. 3rd 2026, marked Making Spider Sense’s 10-year anniversary as a business! It’s hard to believe that it’s been that long, and we’re thrilled as well as grateful to have made it to this milestone. We want to express our appreciation to all our clients who have trusted us over the years with their projects: websites, logos, graphics, brochures, flyers, articles, videos, and more. We would not have made it to this point without all of you, and we are glad that you seem to agree with our sentiment that you are truly in good hands!
I also wanted to take a couple minutes to reflect on the past 10 years in business, including some of our history, and a shout-out to our clients.
It started as something temporary.
While Ben had been using the business name for a couple years already, he officially started the LLC business in 2016 simply as a way to take on projects while searching for a full-time job. Then, once he successfully landed one, he decided that he might as well keep the business going on the side since he already had accumulated several projects which were in the works.
The side hustle kept growing.
Projects continued coming in, and the business gained momentum over the next couple years. Then in 2019, he decided to make the jump into full-time small business owner, and he’s maintained that title ever since.
Erica (I) joined the team.
While riding out the pandemic working as an OT in a hospital, I initially just helped create mockups for websites and web pages. In a time when leaving the house was a stressful, socially-distanced experience, it was nice having a concrete focus that I could immerse myself in and use as a creative outlet. After a time, as the pandemic finally started drawing to a close, I decided to bow out of the hospital entirely and focus fully on design. My role expanded to cover a much wider variety of creative projects, including logos, brochures, promos, business cards, and whatever else was thrown my way.
Our services have continued to expand.
Along with continuing our web and graphic design ventures, we’ve taken on copywriting projects including articles and newsletters. One of the most rewarding parts of the past 10 years has actually been getting experience across so many different areas. While the areas aren’t unrelated, the variety helps keep things feeling fresh. And I usually find that when I step away from a certain type of project for a short while – let’s say one-page ad design – I feel I can come up with better ideas more easily when I come back.
Together, we’ve become jacks of many trades.
Actually, I feel that we are at least one step above jacks at this point. Maybe we’re squires? Knights? Lord and Lady, even? We’ve had so much fun learning new skills, honing existing ones, and figuring out how we can best help each client. While each project may be different, what doesn’t change is our close communication with everyone we work with, and the desire to get things looking just right, even if it takes a while.
Our clients have taught us a lot.
On a personal note, we always enjoy gaining insight on the different areas of work our clients are involved in, and the organizations they’ve built. Everyone has something unique to offer the world, and we love getting to play a part in showcasing what they can do. We consider it an honor.
We’re especially grateful for the people who took a chance on us.
While we deeply appreciate all the clients we’ve worked with and the projects they’ve entrusted to us over the years, we want to give a special thanks to some of our earliest clients who took a chance on us when the business was just getting started, and MSS was but a tiny spiderling. We’re proud to still work with some of those people to this day! Those relationships and experiences have helped shape who we are as a business.
Ten years later, we’re excited for what’s next.
What started out as a transitory way to take on creative web projects turned into something neither of us could have quite anticipated. We’re grateful for the journey so far, and we’re so excited for whatever new projects, people, opportunities, and adventures await us.
